That’s a great story!
I loved the inner sleeve of Wilder, the gold lettering, slightly embossed I think. Got mine for Christmas, so weirdly I always associate it a bit with that, quite bright and shiny and optimistic, even though there’s sone dark stuff on there. Love Bent Out Of Shape too, Passionate Friend of course. And Seven Views of Jerusalem… but yeah, Culture Bunker’s the one.

Nice human interest story involving the flick moustache neighbour.

I liked TE, but I didn't love them.
Not sure what album it was from but i did like the synth based song When I Dream.
Recall it being played at Pips.

Blimey, I never knew you had a neighbour who gave you records, good ones too. Mine used to sometimes give me a lift to work in his council van, Charlie Pride cassette playing loudly while he regaled me with tales of his time in the military and I consumed lung fulls of second hand smoke.
I love both of those albums though I wasn't as big on Wilder when it first came out. It's a great tune but, again, not one I'd play in isolation. It sounds pretentious to say it but Wilder really works as a complete album. Start to finish, all the songs complimenting one another in prefect order. Tiny Children was a bold decision as a single. Great Dominions one of the best album closers I can recall.

hendersonjones Culture Bunker grabbed me straight away it just seemed instantly scouse all those bah bah bahs .
We had new neighbours move next to my mum and dads house in a young couple early twenties, she was from Leeds he was from Liverpool he looked different apart from being a copper , flick moustache jeans adidas trainers , and for a young lad whose life evolved everthing two tone he was so different , my start in at being a casual consisted of a weekend shopping in Leeds M&S crew neck , bright coloured cords and hush puppie suedes , this didn’t go unnoticed by my new scouse neighbour , who had seen me one saturday in my new found clothes and culture at Elland Rd whilst he was on duty , then one evening he knocked on my parents door and asked for me , “what’s he done now” was the usual cry , but on this occasion he said i have something for him
, i went to the door and he gave gifted to me the two teardrop explodes albums and crocodiles by the bunnymen , i said thankyou and had no idea why at the time he gave them to me , he replied i saw you at the football last saturday with your mates while at work thought you like these , and left saying something along lines of behave yourself , played them to death and other than my parents love of the beatles it was my first introduction to Liverpool music scene which i’ve loved ever since , so here we are the Culture Bunker by The Teardrop Explodes it takes me back to the early eighties where it all began for me

10/10 for the back story alone. Nice one

Good story, much better than the track. It was listenable, but sounds a bit dated to me. I was never a great fan of Mr Cope, other than Reward and Treason, and this didn’t move me to delve further. Thanks for posting, though.

I like both albums but at the time Kilimanjaro was my favourite.
It took about 5 years before Wilder replaced it.
That said I was never a massive fan of this track.Tiny Children and the Great Dominions were the ones I liked best.
I haven't seen him play for years but one of sisters said he spends more time rambling on these days.

He was just a neighbour for a couple of years , always kept my distance with him being plod and me being 16 , don’t even remember his name , i shall ask my old man see what he remembers

Could be a good thread about neighbours we've all had.
And whether you can be cool and a copper.
Probably better than one about this song. One of those where I just don't see his appeal. Very little talent and too many mushrooms for me. But I like heavy metal. And it's good to read how excited people got about music growing up, irrespective of what that music was.
