For some reason, girls didn’t like to go into pubs on their own, so you’d arrange a meet. Obviously in Hawley’s song, it was Cole’s Corner, in Sheffield. Growing up in York, there were various locations depending on which bus stop they were getting off at. But a middle ground meeting point was outside M&S on Parliament Street. I’m sure wherever you grew up, there were similar meeting points.
