I watched an interview the other day, which included Ridsdale, O Leary and Hasselbaink, not in the same room together. According to JFH "it was never about the money, O Leary wanted young players"
O Leary said that was nonsense. Ridsdale was determined to not sell him to an English club (Chelsea) and that s why he ended up in Spain. Apparently in 1999 the highest paid player at Leeds was Radebe circa £19k and JFH moved for just over £30k a week
Once A Madrid were relegated he ended up at Chelsea anyway and on his return with them to ER, Ridsdale (at the end of the game) went pitch side to shake JFH s hand, but he refused. Mourinho got shot of him at Chelsea and a few years later JFH was on the phone to Ridsdale (now at Cardiff) wanting a contract and he got one. No shame, some people.
