I thought I had John Martyn down - folkie troubadour, piss-head - and then in the early 00s I picked up a cheap CD compilation of 'down tempo grooves'* and this was on it.
As the title suggests, it's not a getting-ready-to-go-out-on-a-Friday-night tune; it's just a beautiful song.
Recorded by a lake outside the studio in the uh, small hours, hence the occasional geese honking in the background.
This live version is worth a scan too:
*- Back in the days when you bought random CDs for £2.99. None of the usual suspects on it and completely filler free. In terms of plays per pound it has been tremendous value.
