Kevin_Stapleton Loved Montevideo, nice laid back vibe and not up itself like Buenos Aires could be. Stayed with this Uruguayan lad who I'd met at Iguazu and his family. Great times, but a while ago now. Spent a week camping north of PdE - amazing beaches. Wasn't Punta del Este a southern hemisphere version of Ibiza once upon a time?
Djpekingman Last of Montevideo. What an odd place. Maybe its the time of year but its so quiet - almost like a ghost town. Perhaps everybody's fucked off for christmas. Not that you'd know it was Xmas - no trees, lights, decorations, nowt. The people are really chilled out here, but that might be the (legal) herb. Same old social problems though - loads of homeless.
Djpekingman Buenos Aires. What a beautiful city. Think Paris or Madrid. Glorious avenues and barrios and parks. Great bar and cafe culture. Loads of small independent shops knocking out some beautiful kit. And a surfeit of the most beautiful ladies you'll ever see. My favourite South American city so far. We're staying in the Palermo district. Its fab. This is San Telmo markets district...
Djpekingman Then on to La Boca, a good working class barrio and home to Boca Juniors. Also provider of much of the cannon fodder for Galtieri's Falklands debacle.
Djpekingman Ricoleta cemetery today to look at some dead people. Eva Peron the most notable. Probably Argentina's greatest ever leader, not that the bar is particularly high and definitely not like the orange idiot lover in charge today. Not sure how Argentina continues to function. He has totally screwed the economy. Yesterday it cost 16000 pesos commission to withdraw the limit of 20000 from an atm. Today that limit is down to 15000 pesos which is no use to anyone. It's about 8.75 euros. No cash in society. Bizarre.
Djpekingman Leaving Buenos Aires. The maddest bus station - no departure boards and electricity off in parts of the building. You're give a departure gate of 10 to 28 so lots of running around and jostling when a bus you think might be yours arrives. And there are around 80 gates.
Djpekingman Pilgrimage made. The home of Marcelo Bielsa and Newell's Old Boys. Some history - Marcelo, Maradona, Batistuta, Messi, Pellegrino and many more. And it's definitely not Beeston.
Djpekingman New Years eve, Rosario. And its fucking deserted. And everthing is shut. Everything. Whoever said it rocks is talking out of their arse. Happy new year everybody.
