I used to dislike David Crosby. I thought he was a self-absorbed prick. Never met him like so what do I know? But I’d read how he was instrumental in Gene Clark having a mental breakdown and having to quit the Byrds and that was a barrier. I stopped being silly and got past this in my early 30s. This song is from his 1971 solo album “If I could only remember my name” A “solo” album that had every cunt from the West Coast music scene playing on it. Jerry Garcia plays guitar on this song and Joni Mitchell is in the vocals as well as the usual Graham Nash and Stephen Stills playing on it (along with some other long haired, pot smoking layabouts).
I just love the sound of it. It’s spellbinding. I want it to go on for much longer than the 4 minutes 14 seconds. It feels too short.
I thought of this song the other day actually when I read about the warnings that “the nation’s sons and daughters need to be ready to fight” and thought oh fuck off.
