Young_Marxist_at_Tescos I quite like Scarborough, no idea who Shack are and I make butty out of both fish and chips usually, however I occasionally only use the fish and leave chips to the side. Mushy peas or curry are both fine by me too, but don't often, if ever get gravy from the chippy!

Good luck to Emley! Think I’ve mentioned before that I played for them as a kid. Many a happy and unhappy time spent at the Welfare Ground. I remember going to Wembley to see them lose to Colne Dynamos in the FA Vase too. Some good FA Cup runs too, including West Ham away.
Shame the club merged with Wakefield when only one league below the Conference and with a great side, then having to start again from scratch when it all went tits up.

1988? Colne were staying in the hotel where i was working. Some party that night.

Jon My dad went, I didn’t. Must’ve been playing I suppose. I knew Paul David, the Emley goal scorer, and had played with him a few times. Good lad, became manager later. Ian Banks, what a player he was, also went on to manage the club. No wonder I was nowhere near ever playing for the first team and ended up slipping down the local Huddersfield leagues!

Not West Yorks but been always follow Hednesford's results - wife's from there, MIL still lives there, been to a few games down the years. Anyway they won on pens today in the Northern Premier play off so go up to the National League North or South, one below the National League. So pleased for them, it's a good set up and they get decent crowds, 4000+ today. Up the Pitmen!

I played against them when they were previously in the West Riding County Amateur league.
Always a tough gig there same as games against Halifax Irish.

I've lost track a bit as there's far fewer teams now. Hardly any Sunday pub teams. Sometimes go watch Carlton in the WY Prem. Are Glasshoughton, Ossett, Emley still decent?

Reggie_Perrin You’re right Reg, there are far fewer teams, but it’s not just that. I’ve lost track to the extent that I didn’t realise until a couple of years ago, that the entire County Amateur league had folded.

There were some right sides in there in the 80s and 90s. Mainly Bradford / Huddersfield based.

Reggie_Perrin Emley are now 3 leagues lower than the 4th Division having just beaten Bradford (Park Avenue) in a Playoff Final.
