I thought Uncle Monty was a youngish female poster - am I wrong?

did you go to Thailand? If so how was it?
Uncle_Monty
Loved it. Bangkok is a surreal experience the first time around. Headed south to Ko Lanta which was very beautiful and peaceful. The folk there are awful nice. Going back again in December. Would recommend. Becuase I am a lady I didn't frequent the "pussy writes with pen" bars - just shopped like a demon! Also went to a great bar "Sirocco" open air and fantastic view of Bangkok.

You going back to Ko Lanta or you gonna try elsewhere?

Avoid the pubs in Temple Bar in the middle. Decent to walk round there but more expensive than London. :o

You've got to have a couple in Temple Bar but I'd leave it at just a couple. The Long Stone is a decent boozer up near Trinity College. The Cellar Bar under Merrion Hotel (off St Stephens Green) is cracking - good for some teatime grub.If you're feeling flash, Brownes Brasserie on the green is first class, but it's dear.Johnnie Fox's is right out in the sticks - about 30 euro each way in a taxi, but worth checking what music they have on. Usually touristy but a good craic.Cheggers is right - its a fucking dear do. I always go out in the country now and don't bother with the centre of Dublin itself.

My memories of being in Temple Bar before were that it was pretty full on mental. Staying in a B&B off St Stephen's Green - bloody pricey for a hotel like! There was a traditional boozer where a lot of newspaper folk went that was very good fun but can't remember what it was called and where it was for the life of me. Looking for a decent pint, nice scran and friendly people who fancy a chat. Will check out the Long Stone. Ta

That'll be James Toners - just a 100 yard stride off St Stephens Green. My cousin Jim will probably be sat at the end table furthest from the door early doors with his laconic mate called Padriac. Here's a link
http://www.tonerspub.ie/ The Cobblestones pub is the other side of the quays up in Smithfield. Another old boozer - very friendly - irish music sessions - good mix of people. It's a 10/15 minute walk or any taxi driver will know it and get you there for the price of a pint.Temple bar is fine for a very late night pint and at half a euro more a pint great value if you're still thirsty and beyond caringThere's a canny little French restaurant in a cellar just alonside the Green - on your left as you walk from Grafton Street towards Toners. Great scran. Not cheap. Try the seafood platter... it's an er experience

I've been there. Fucking great mussels - they come out in a cast iron cauldron. Terrific steak from what i can recall. They had a right proper mucky looking spanish waitress too.

I know it's bad form to discuss Bangkok in a Dublin thread but i went there as well UM. 64 floors up on the top of the State Tower. Did you eat or just go to the Sky Bar? That glass barrier at the rear of the bar is amazing, you just look straight down to the traffic below. :o I know it's just a restaurant on the top of a high building but it was one of the highlights of my visit.Did the cab drivers try and shaft you when you came out? They think you're minted if you've been in there. Wanted 200 baht for a trip that we paid 80 for on the way there.

Reporting back from Dublin. Well the weather was atrocious. The plane I was on was hit by lightning, always comforting to see a ball of fire outside your window when you're thousands of mile up in the air.Anyway - Navarro and I checked out the Long Stone (decent, good pint) and Toners. I had been to Toners before, a great boozer, nice gruff landlord and cracking whiskies. Also decent crisps - not Tayto - but a make called "Kings" - a superb crisp. Also went to a place called Shebeens on Great George Street South. Shabby chic with a decent menu (boxty and the like) and lots of attractive men/women for Navarro and I to peruse/slobber over. Decent restaurants and pubs on this street, it's just off Dame Street at the bottom of Grafton Street (Trinity College end). Didn't really bother with Temple bar. Walked around it on Saturday but the weather was so dreadful ended up in a hotel bar for a bit of respite. Also went to a decent pub Doheny and Nesbitts across from Toners. Checked out the Cellar Bar too - very nice.Regarding Thailand: WortlyLS12. I didn't really get any taxi's in Bangkok. I walked or used the buses! The occasional tuk tuk and the skytrain.

I liked Toners + at 4.70 euro a pint of guiness, it was pretty cheap. I must say though, the grey haired bloke behind the bar was the most dourest miserable fucker I've ever seen in my life. That was until Newcastle scored , when suddenly he let out a fearsome roar of jubilation + started slapping the tv with his rolled up News of the world, + was shouting for those "fecking red cunts to feck off out of it". Frightened half the pub to death.:)

I am off the Dublin for the first time next weekend on a stag do. How much spends do I need for a 2 all day sessions, as we are going for 2nights? I reckon about £250?!
