Beer-Ritz in Headingley (opposite Bryan's Chip shop) - and the place in the market square (probably named the same) in Knaresborough are the local standard bearers. Sadly the emporium of magnificence in Otley died a few months back. From what I understand, Jupiler was a family-feud derivative of Stella, in the way that Black Sheep split from Theakstons. If anyone is interested, I'll dig out the books that I have on the different varieties of wheat beer. While not my routine beer of choice, wheat beers are a remarkable revelation and an incredible occasional alternative tipple.

Around Brussels you get Jupilier on draught in most bars. Ne'er a sight or sound of wifebeater. They also do Kriek Raspberry on draught...its sneaks up and smacks you on the back of the head.Once went out in Leuven, about 30k east of Brussels. Really nice medieval university town. There's this massive state of the art Stella brewery on the edge of the town, but I couldn't see it on sale in any of the bars we went in. They do this taster kit - 8 125cl tasters which as a mix of different ones from the monasteries etc. Or just half litre mothers you can go down the bar with.... we went for the latter, well the cold ones. No tasting notes, soz - but a top night out, but end up a little weary giving the pitch the next day. Luckily the customers have been out with us and were equally fucked. We don't do book, thanks... its all field work.

At the bar this bloke who wasn't from Bradford struck up a conversation with me when I ordered one of these pints. Said he liked real ale, but wasn't aware of any pubs in town that sold owt decent. I tell him to try Corn Dolly, CV and F Cock if he has the time. And give him one of my vouchers seeing as he was gonna get a pint of this CravenbrauIt was like I'd given him a £10. As I'm about to go back to my seat his mate appears - and I can hear him saying wow - how friendly are the people up hereSometimes I feel sorry for southerners
