Djpekingman As per historical posts it was Dave Hart, the copper with the long body and short legs, who was John's partner at center back who broke the post.
I was at John's second wedding. One of the family friends/relatives was telling me that when Paul and John were kids John was the big talent sport-wise. The thing was though that John played everything, Rugby, football, cricket, as well as being involved in athletics, he was a runner and later in life would take up marathons. He did much of this at city level or even county level or so I was told. Paul though, it was just the football, with which he was quietly obsessive, to of course great effect when he grew up.
When I was playing with John and DJP against him he'd have been about forty and his pace had long gone. Still a decent player though and really nice bloke, very unaffected by the wealth he'd accumulated. He was, at that time, always involved in half a dozen things at once.
When he took over at Halifax he took some of our first team players with him Mark Hinchcliffe and Gerard Hill who'd been apprentices at Elland Road and the young kid who broke my leg in training Dave Marshall from up West Park way. Not sure how much they played as I went off to London to work in the film business.
