Not a dog fan. Our current neighbours have got a springer spaniel, which is nice natured but is still allowed to shite all over their yard (cos the lazy sods never take it for a walk). On the whole, they don't appeal to me because they bark at nowt, shit everywhere, lick each others arses - then people's faces, smell and make everything around them smell etc, etc. Dog owners who think everyone else is gonna like their dog when it runs at them, jumps up at them, jumps up at other people's kids, attacks other animals, kids and people and allow them to shit and run where they want should be put down at the same time as their dog.

Also, I would employ special dogshit wardens to follow owners who freely allow their dogs to crap on the pavement and force them to spoon up and eat their dog's emissions. I think that persistent fouling would soon be on the decrease...

In defence of dogs, I would say that, if you're going to have one, you should feed it properly, take it for walks, have it on a lead when appropriate and not let it sleep on your bed - that's just disgusting - and NEVER let the dirty, unclean semi-wild animals LICK YOUR BLOODY FACE!!!

Anyone had to put a dog down?

Fucking thing bit the wife last week and me today. Hes getting on a bit and getting very cantankerous - I can’t trust him anymore.

He Bit my youngest 7 years ago, stitches job, and was re homed at my FIL for three years - he came back after he died and has been OK but last summer went after a little boy for no reason when we were away for a weekend.

He was tethered to a spike and thank god he was. Then this month he’s bit me and her - he’s had a few fits also - I think his wires have frazzled.

I think the instances, although far apart, are too prevalent now. He has always been dominating and territorial. He bit the wife last month for no reason - jumped out his bed to attack her and today he was sat with me in the park, a lent down to take his lead of and he bit me!

I don’t want people to think i’m just wanting to get rid - there is context here. His beahviour has declined over a number of years. I dont think he is safe in my house or around other people.

I’ll phone the vets see what they say.

Anchor Fair enough. It just sounded a bit harsh initially. I think Precinct Boy has a good point. It’s possible the dog might have some underlying health issues here, and has become aggressive because he’s in pain. Bit like you when you have man flu. Hope you get something sorted. You did say he’s been a good dog over the years, so I hope he doesn’t die.

What breed is he?

He is a Patterdale Terrier. A working dog so has been pretty hard work - they say a toss up if they are any good in a family home.

He demands attention, is clever as fuck and wants mental as well as physical stimulation. So he gets walked daily and twice a day at weekends and loves to play pull/tug and find something he has to dig out. Hopeless pub dog as he just pithers - wants to be on the go all the time. I’ve never knackered him out and used to take him on 15 mile walks!

Like I say he has been fine but the incident with Child three was horrible but bar that just territorial stuff until more recently. Not a decision i’m taking lightly - just wondered if anyone had a similar experience.

Anchor We’ve got a half Patterdale, half Plummer who is about 6 and half years old now.

When she was barely 12 weeks old she ran down from the garden repeatedly throwing something in the air and jumping up and catching it. It turned out to be a huge king rat about ⅔ her own size. She had this fizz of joy about her that made me vow never to leave her in the same room as our newly born grandson. Living next to a stable brings rats and she’s earnt her keep over the last 6 years keeping the fuckers out of the house and garden. But she’s territorial and grumpy. We have to constantly tell the young uns to leave her alone. She’s not bit them but she warns them off when they back her into a corner. They can ride the border collie like a horse and drag her about by the tail and she doesn’t care, she loves the kids, but the little one is best left to herself and needs locking away when strangers call.

I guess that’s the payoff for having a small dog that will gladly fight a fox to the death.

But as said previously, you don;t want to mix small working dogs with young ’uns.

Hope it works out Anchor, it’s a pretty shitty situation you are in. Until my latest dog I’ve always had working terriers types but i prefer bitches, they tend to bond with one person and are less inclined to be lunatics.

Nothing I can really suggest. As stated above (after looking on Google) eliminate the possibility he’s in pain. If it comes to it give him the walk of his life somewhere with shit loads of rabbits to chase, as his farewell . Good luck. x

I had a Jack Russell that went for the daughter just after she’d started walking many years ago.
Up to that point the dog was fucking brilliant,typical terrier,bundles of energy and loyal as fuck.
But therein lay the problem,he never took to the daughter when she was born,used to growl if he heard her stirring in the Moses basket or cot.
The dog came from working stock,we got him from a farm in Denholme.
Think he saw our baby girl as a threat to his territory and someone who also stole our affection if that makes sense
Luckily a mate who had a German Shepherd and wanted a smaller dog as a playmate took him off our hands,lived out in the sticks so it worked out in the end.
Up until that point though I was all set for an upsetting trip to the vets.
Hate to say it mate but you can’t have him biting you or yours so as FD suggests get some quality time in with him and make some final memories to cherish.
Dogs are fucking ace though.

We tried dog rescue places - refused as he’d bitten and bitten a child. A patterdale rescue would not take either and warned us of him ending up in a fighting/ratting/badger situation as they are favoured dogs for that world - one they were very keen he did not end up in.

I am going to take him to the vets and see what they suggest. He still has his bollocks - maybe that has a bearing.

I’ve got a Jack and sometimes he turns on me, not biting, but a f*ck off growl. It’s when he can hear the postman and I try to distract him.

Your dog sounds like he is in pain. They can’t tell you. It’s a vicious cycle in that the exercise that you are giving him, could be aggravating it.

Space - it seems your dog and mine are interchangeable. He got a rat when he was about 1 - was in our bin. He was going tits and I opened the bin rto be greeted by this fucking thing. Wheeled it into the front and lifted the lid - was over in about 30 seconds - shook it to death, did not puncture the skin. He got a mouse the other that was living in my shed.

I have not allowed him alone with kids since he was about 3 I’d say - after he bit child three and lived with FIL for about three years till he died. It was then we realised we could not get him re homed so decided to have him back.

I had a fracas a few years ago with a lad looking for my eldest - very long story - and we ended up rucking, Ted was there attacking the lad with me - he sooned fucked off I can tell you. So - like you say it is a pay off isn’t it - I know he would defend us to the hilt.

He has had a stay of execution and a re think re his boundaries/where he sleeps and how we are with him.

Vets booked in - i’ll report back.

Got rid of all but one of the puppies. Grandson took a shine to this and it took such a shine to him we couldn’t sell it. Sometimes it the dog that chooses the owner.

I was toying with the the whippet but fuck that. The price is ridiculous. Even mark radcliffe was on about if they still gave kittens away. My mates daughter just paid 500 for a “house cat” ffs must be my age. Cats should just roam free, kill vermin and get fed off other households as well as yer own
