One of the great protest songs of the era “come back to god given leisure” is a brilliant line.

I think it was Clive Langer (a link! But not the one here) who produced the Remember single and opened up this bright pop world to Wylie. That single, this one, Story of the Blues of course, Sinful… he really came out with some glorious stuff for a few years. Intriguing really how he’s always been such a big part of that Liverpool scene, but apart from it as well. And I always think the first album’s really underrated and was very influential, even the sleeve design, fed through to a lot of stuff that was to follow. The bass-heavy music, the anti-rockist stance (a phrase Wylie apparently coined).

So the link obviously begins with Budgie (I only found out recently that his surname is Rigar). If you go down the Big In Japan route, you’ve got gazillions of options. Sorry , he was the drummer in the band, in case some don’t know (you also had Bill Drummond, Ian Broudie, Langer, Holly Johnson, Dave Balfe, etc as members at various times). Their debut single was on Eric’s Records with “Do the Chud” by the Chuddy Nuddies on the other side. Never heard it, never really wanted to. Anyway, the Chuddy Nuddies became power-pop adjacent Yachts (they had a song Box 202 which is good), with Henry Priestman the singer.

Priestman briefly joined Wylie with The Mighty Wah in 1984, played on Sinful, not sure if he was on this one, but would've worked on demos, etc around the same time. Then he famously went off and formed It's Immaterial and The Christians.
