Not a very 'leftfield' choice, but so what? PJ Harvey had released a lot of music before this, which I thought was 'alright', without getting me too excited and then I heard 'Good Fortune' and was blown away so took a punt on the whole album. I have to say from the off that I am very much a tracks/singles kind of fella, as I often find that buying the whole album on the basis of one track turns in to a disaster. Have you ever heard 'Big Boy' by Minuteman? Cracking song. Don't buy the album, though. Total shite.
Anyway, I digress. As soon as I popped this baby on, I was hooked. For me, every track is a cracker; 'You said Something', 'We Float', just brilliant. Strangely different from what she had done before, but still very similar, if that makes sense? I have found in my musical journey that almost every band/artist manages to make one truly great album, in the same way that a distinctly average football team can suddenly play a blinder for one season, or one cup campaign or whatever. I am not saying PJ Harvey is average, just that this album, for me, is a Champions League contender.
