OMJ Walking thread, that's WALKING, rambling and that!

Angry walking = setting the world to rights and deleting cunts off your phone with purpose...

Holywell wroteSomeone take an option on the film rights. That's a story begging for the big screen treatment. Quality.

If that had taken place 2,000 years ago, it would have become a Norse Saga, to be told on winter nights to halls full of bearded warriors resplendent in hats with horns on.

A bit like your typical WMC in Newcastle.

I took the recent decision that I will spend 8 days in the summer of 2013 walking the Yorkshire section of the Pennine Way. As a consequence I will be doing 3 one day taster walks this spring and summer and a two day version. Kill or cure in terms of fitness is how I'd describe the idea!

Big_Society

and the first taster is set up, Gargrave "ramble" on May 12th. 5 hours train from smoke, 3 hours walking, 3 hours supping, 5 hours home....lovely.

Did Pen Y Ghent this morning.
Left Cleckheaton at 6.30 and got to Horton via a stop in Keighly at 8.00.
Went up on the standard 3 peaks route in the mist and drizzle.
I'm a novice walker and not very fit... And with my dodgy knees I struggled up the rocks to get to the summit.
Coffee , banana and mars bar at the top and knee pain on the way down.
Got to the car park at 11 in heavy rain and back to civilisation by 12.30.
I'm not sure I'll be fit enough for the 3 peaks at Easter ... My knee is now swollen.
My Lurcher had a great morning and is now fast asleep on her back.
Doing 2 peaks in two weeks time(maybe)

Just read Lebs tale, had me in stitches.

LL you got to Striding Edge in winter, are you experienced in these things, in summer in the lakes i'll cancel a walk if the weather looks dodgy. I did Striding Edge on a decent day with a bit of a wind, the trickier bits had me almost on all fours as i inched my way across. In dry conditions the scramble up is easy.

I'd like to do some winter walking sometime but Striding Edge would not be on my list.

Might go for the Yorkshire three peaks challenge in early September (assuming a 6am start with a 7.30pm getting dark) which will be the 5th of a progression upwards from the Gargrave ramble in May (looking at Hebden Bridge circular in June, West of Marsden in July, 2 day hike from Edale to Marsden in August).

Should be around 10/11hrs for the 3 peaks. Chaffing is thine enemy.

Good luck man.

Ease up, charity page.....related to walking thread. Honest CBDS all other licnks have been directly related to the thread (mostly co-incidence on the day). Apologies if it looks like spamming I promise you it is not. I go further, to be honest Clarkeonenil doesn't need extra readers if that makes sense to you, because if it did get them it puts it in the twiglight zone between its present status of a non money making hobby site and the dreaded "commercial" prospect!

But as I said last time noted and good intentions abound. Your gaff your rules.

Nope, not mine....and as far as i'm aware there are no rules......we self-police.

I know you links are relevenat to the threads........its just seems every other post you do is a link!!

As a compromise why not post whatever you are linking to on here rather than just a link??

Did Whernside and Ingleborough yesterday with a few extra miles thrown in due to a mis navigation ... I'll try to stick up some pics when I'm able to move.

Foxy_Dread

I can now start to think about planning a walk for the late summer, new hip in place and going well so far.
