Harvest wroteHad to take the car to the garage this morning so walked to work. Took an hour. Don't know why I don't do this more often, felt great.
This..
Set a play list of tunes up, it's great experiencing same places from a different perspective with a different soundtrack.

We can't wait to welcome walkers both old and new to our 20th annual Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge and Valleys Walk.
This year Heart Research UK and the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority's Three Peaks Project have teamed up together to bring you these walks as part of our flagship Day in the Dales event. Horton in Ribblesdale is sure to be a hive of activity and fun.
The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge
This 25 mile hike through mountainous, but breath taking terrain, is a firm favourite in the Dales calendar. The challenge is to complete the hike across the three mountains, Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough in under 12 hours. Don't underestimate how tough this very rewarding challenge is – you are hiking three mountains - a total ascent of more than 2,000m in just one day.
Fee: £25 per individual
£15 per person in groups of four or more people
Children under 12 are free
Our entry fee is good value for money and enables us to provide qualified first aiders, manned checkpoints and transport to aid walkers unable to complete the route.
The Valleys Walk
This 16 mile trek meanders through the valleys of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. While the Valleys Walk is not as gruelling as the Three Peaks Challenge, it is still a challenging walk in itself.
Each peak has it's own distinct character and is surrounded by outstanding beauty from ancient limestone pastures and upland hill farms to expansive heather moorland.
Fee: £15 (under twelves are free)
5k Nature Trail
For families and those looking for a more relaxing Dale’s walk, we have a new nature trail. This walk will be much smoother underfoot, but just as scenic as our longer walks. You will see the mountains, stunning flower rich meadows and if you are lucky you might spot a house martin or hear a laughing woodpecker.
Fee: £5 (under twelves are free)
Your safety
Your safety when participating in our walks is our priority. There will be checkpoints along both the Three Peaks Challenge and the Valleys Walk. This will help us to monitor your progress through the walk.
At each checkpoint, first-aid personnel and an experienced team of marshals will be on hand. Transport will also be available to take walkers who are unable to complete their walk to the finish point.
Day in the Dales
These walks are part of Heart Research UK’s new Day in the Dales event in partnership with the Yorkshire Dales National Park’s Three Peaks Project.
Day in the Dales is Heart Research UK’s flagship event with plenty on offer for the whole family to enjoy. In addition to our walks, set in this area of outstanding beauty, you can enjoy plenty of sports, games and activities and browse the stalls offering fresh local produce, crafts and gifts.
Together, we will be raising money to help people live healthier, happier and longer lives as well as improving and maintaining the Three Peaks path for generations to come.
Event fees and your sponsorship
This year we have teamed up with the Yorkshire Dales National Park's Three Peaks Project. This means that, not only will you be helping hearts near you, your sponsorship will also help to preserve the Three Peaks path for years to come. Your entry fee will be used to cover the immediate costs of organising the event and any sponsorship raised will allow us to continue to fund our pioneering medical research.
We wish all of our walkers the best of luck in raising as much sponsorship as possible.

Had nearly ten months in the Dales now. Loving it. Every weekend still feels like we're away on holiday. Really hope that feeling never wears off :)

I'd recommend a circular walk that starts in Malham, takes in Janet's Foss and Goredale Scar (should be dry enough to clamber up depending on your surefootedness) then onto Malham Tarn and across the Limestone tops to Malham Cove itself. Tromp down back into town for a few beers and pie and chips
I'd say it was about 6-7 miles but it's gets the heart beating and makes you feel you've heard your pie and a pint

Striding Edge, I was going to take my daughter along there when she was nine, then thought better of it and went on my own. At points I was stooped low ready to drop on all fours if the wind picked up.

I cannot imagine how that would have been with wind. Zero wind yesterday, thankfully.

Was walking in Martindale, yesterday. A bit early for the deer rut, so went up to Angle Tarn, along the ridge, overlooking Hartsop and back into Martindale. Beautiful day and only saw about half a dozen other folk. Ace.

Tramping round Cannock Chase today. There's a bit where I'm always weary, nearly stepped on an adder there a few years back. Like it's going to be there still waiting for me.
