Ray Hankin's shorts wroteold yeadonian wroteDay off work today, beautiful morning,so drove up to Malham.
Parked up at the bottom of the village and headed up towards the cove past the Janet Foss waterfall and up Gordale Scar.
Reached the top of the cove somewhat knackered having forgotten how steep the climb up the scar actually was.
Sat down on the limestone pavement right on the edge of Malham cove and shared my water and cereal bar with my ever loyal Jack Russell whilst taking in the most spectacular view.
Then headed up to the sinkhole and over to Malham Tarn.
Doubled back across the moor towards the cove again but this time walking down the opposite side picking up the steep steps and path adjacent to the beck which heads back into the village.
8 mile circuit which took just short of 3 hours and loved every minute.
Finished the morning off with pie and chips and a pint of Guinness in the Buck Inn.
One of those days when you feel lifes not that bad at all sometimes.
Mentioned before that I am off up to The Dales with the wife and kids (4 and 6 yrs old). Keen to show them Malham Cove - do you think they'd manage it at their age?
Definitely RHS if you take the public footpath route from the village up to the cove.
It's well signposted and it's the path I came down today.
The steps at the top are steep but there's resting points to take in the view if needed.
Put it this way,we're taking the 3 year old grandson up this summer.
I suspect at some point he might end up on my shoulders at some point though, but that's normal for him when he's out with us,bless him.
