Despite the crackles with vinyl everything sounds clearer and has more depth to it. I notice it more with 60’s music and soul. The brass section on soul sounds less jarring, warmer. In general drums sound fuller, bass more vibrant and you notice basslines more, same with guitar - more pronounced. With vinyl the overall sound is more natural and vivid. It’s the equivalent to looking at fake flames on gas fire then looking at a log fire. Maybe exaggerated but that’s the best way I can describe it. If that sounds wanky then so be it. I don’t know what I’d do without all my cd’s and would really struggle without my mp3 player but enjoy the sound of records even more. People who say there’s more going on with the flavour in fresh coffee than instant Nescafe have got a point but talk about music like that and people say your being chin strokey. I wanted to do an experiment last night and compare different kinds of music but got as far as ‘lost in the supermarket’ and got told off for messing about. I noticed a difference with that too though and could instantly tell which one I preferred.

Can't stand the deterioration in vinyl. You'd love and cherish a record for years, treating it better than the dog, but then one day, click, click click. It's like a dagger through the heart. You might lose something with CDs etc, you might not but when you are listening to the likes of Alternative TV recorded in a lunch hour in a tin pot studio in Hackney it doesn't really matter. Does it?
