Just read the stuff in the standard, made me sad, even they and boris seemed sad.

You could disagree with his politics, but still admire the man and how he looked after his members. He earn't his money, no question.

I saw him interviewed by Andrew Neil a couple of weeks back and he was top telly.

What would be nice would be the odd 'Labour' politician paying a 'tribute' without the obligatory, tabloid-friendly 'I didn't agree with everything he did/said'. Fact is, he fought hard for normal, working people, irrespective of gender, colour, etc. Something you'd have thought they'd have approved of.

If he worked in the City they'd have knighted him. But he worked for working class people so they fucking hate him.

Load of bollocks that bit. The only reason union leaders don't get knighted anymore is because the labour party, who get to nominate, choose not to. Plenty have been made peers, fucking hypocrites that they were taking the daily refreshers off people who exploited their members.

He fought for his members, fair play - but the rest, nah. Mother Theresa's sainthood is still safe.

The establishment hated him for all that he stood for and all that he was.
If he was that effective an operator in the City or in commerce he'd have been drafted in to save the NHS. Or remodelled the welfare state. Or defence procurement.
And he'd have had a trip to the Palace to boot.
But he didn't.
So they took pictures of him on holiday and reminded us of the house he lived in. And begrudged the 'normal' people he protected every single penny he got them whilst others spunk fucking millions on fuck all a few hundred feet above them.

Funny how everyone cries out for a straight-talking, question-answering person of principle but then don't like it when they get one.

Oh come on, he was political and therefore was fair game like everyone in that game. He was even standing as a candidate in the euros. Of course they went after him, like they do everyone else. He wasn't part of the gangs who gave out patronage, so no benefits - as you know thats how works - party contributions = payback.

He was fucking good at what he did, for his members. A few more of the useless cunts should be so good. As a commuter, he was a pain in the fucking arse - but that was his job in that kind of industrial sector.

Echo that. He was refreshing and he was a considerable force for the labour movement. I dont look forward to cunts like Chukka Ummana name checking his legacy after basically undermining everything Labour should stand for.

Makes no sense. So your commute would have better with poorly paid staff? Or have you worked out how to run the tube system in your fucking lunch hour?

It does, but then again, I am stuck in prices back in the year 2000 when I left. Maybe it is not very much these days I don't really know. It was agenuine question.

You know blood was rushing to the head a bit, but then I thought fuck it. The bloke is dead and though a vehemently disagreed with his politics and tactics I do believe he was man of integrity who worked hard for his members. And 52 years old, well we're mostly around that mark, there but for the grace of God and all that. If we are to debate train drivers pay in London, let's do it on a different thread.
