Sometime about 78ish we stopped in a B&B in Blackpool for a week's holiday. I can still remember the address, 50 Reeds Avenue. When the owner saw that I was into football he said that I'd have to meet his son who played for Preston. This was Michael Robinson, who I'd never heard of. He came in later that night and I can remember standing with him in this little alcove they had with a phone in it. He was wearing a white t-shirt and had a thin gold chain on underneath. He signed the back of one of the B&B's cards for me which I still have somewhere. I told him I was a Leeds fan and he said he'd played in reserve games against us and that Paul Reaney was so hard to play against. He was a very smiley lad. I half followed his career after that.
Years later when he was a pundit in Spain, a Spanish girl I knew said everyone used to mock his accent but in a good way, he was really popular on Spanish TV. I was only reading about him a couple of days ago and shocked to hear that his cancer was terminal. Nice fella.
