Did he have a spell at Blackpool too as John Burridge's understudy?

Was Blackpool's main keeper in the early 80s and England U23s ahead of Lukic if my memory is correct. Also seem to remember he went out with one of Blackpool legends The Nolans .

That may just be a Blackpool connection though.

This Mike Leigh retrospective on the beeb is fantastic. Link here if you've missed it starting.

He's not dead, is he?!

Mad Frankie Fraser

FlashHarry

Was in the same nick as him in 1982, as a YP. In the dinner queue he asked me how long I was in for, and I told him. Then I asked him, as I didn't know who he was. He told me "Only three days left on a 12-year sentence." I said he must be buzzing, and as he walked away he laughed "Three Christmas Days, son, three Christmas days!" He basically did what he wanted and both screws and cons steered clear.

Interviewed him once. Was for some daft column, "If I was London mayor..." or similar. He's chatting away, we're bonding nicely over Sarf London reference points, he suddenly looks at me and says, "I always get asked how many people I've killed. I say, 'I'm an assassin, not an accountant.'" He then started laughing, I had to start laughing with him, the most hollow laugh I've ever laughed. Still bloody haunts me. Afterwards the photographer was packing his gear up. "I'd like a shot for my own personal use," Fraser said. "Yeah, of course, I've packed all my gear up now, but I'll do you a nice Polaroid, alright?" "No son. Get your gear back out again."

They'll have a minute's silence down the Den. Probably bring out some commemorative kit.

Harvest

I saw him in The Blind Beggar when we were on our way to West Ham. He and a load of bewildered looking Japanese tourists piled out of a minibus and into the pub. Must have been some tour of London gangland, only hurt their own etc. Tiny bloke but a fearsome looking bastard.

Minute's violence darn the Den.

gore

42 years in the chokey out of 91. He might have killed 'em, but he was hardly fucking silent was he?

Was in the Blind Beggar the other Saturday afternoon. Full of medical students watching the rugby.

And beards, lots of beards

fulmine

Fuck yeah. This beard thing. IT'S JUST SHIT.

Harvest

Is that London Hospital Tavern still open on the other side of the road? Used to be a good pub crawl along there. About 8 pubs from one tube stop to the next. Lord Rodney's Head rings a bell.

fulmine

No, I think it's shut now. As has the Grave Maurice. I was in the area because Jake Arnott was giving a talk as part of this literary festival. He was great. But necked a very swift pint in the Blind Beggar, then had to walk all the way down towards Limehouse to find a boozer that wasn't rammed with miserable-looking bearded socks perverts. You're in pub. Cheer up, for fucks sake. Better yet, get the fuck out of my city.

Harvest

Grave Maurice, yep, been in there.

Harvest

Thinking about I remember a landlord telling us that Lord Rodney's Head had been renamed 'The Funky fucking Monkey' in a gruff cockney Mike Reed accent. Try it.

Fakkin liberty.

The last prisoner to have the cat o' 9 tails wasn't he?
