Smutty Lips wroteCarefree that's another one where I'm seemingly out of kilter.
When young I didn't feel carefree, never acted with abandon because I could, because it didn't matter. But on the other hand, I don't feel that I've accumulated lots of cares over the years that somehow inhibit me.
I suppose it's because my life just plods, always has. Is it a blessing? Is it a curse? It could be both at the same time depending on perspective. I don't mean to sound as if I'm complaining when saying life just plods, I'm in a position to do a few things if I wanted but it's simple things that please me.
My daughter was urging me a while ago to do something that I really wanted to do and I couldn't think of anything grand that fit the bill. I'd quite like to go and watch the Rugby League World Cup next year in Australia, but only quite, not enough to do anything about it and not enough to kick myself for not going when it's too late.
Halifax Town are at Wembley next month for the first time in their history, I always thought i'd go, the game's approaching and I feel totally underwhelmed by it and won't be going.
I'm not grumbling, it's just we live in a time where it's the done thing to have a bucket list, to tick off experiences and places we've been and whilst it's going too far to suggest there is a pressure to conform it does make me feel at odds with the rest of my generation.
When stepping back I can see how my plodding nature is what enables me to gamble. Win a couple of grand and I don't feel any joy, the only pleasure is having your judgement vindicated, I don't go on a spending spree, nothing. On the other hand when I have a bad week and lose over a grand, there is naturally a little regret but importantly no mood change.
I'm not a miserable bugger, I'm a cheerful sort with a happy disposition, I just don't feel extremes of happyness or sadness which brings us back to the celebrity death thingy.
Doesn't sound strange to me SL.
I think you've probably nailed it. The whole world seems obsessed with goals, performance, bucket lists. So they can stick it on social media. Chasing it.
I think it's all bollocks.
Most people I suspect are miserable for having goals they'll never fucking achieve.
If you don't want anything you probably have most of the things you want anyway.
Do nothing. Plodding. It's the future. I'm on board. If anything we need less stuff not more.
Ronnie Corbett? Not my era. Seemed like a nice bloke and I'm sure his family are devastated.
