That's a great write up LBB.I've never heard of this hill, but I'll go have a bash next time I get chance.

It's in the 100 greatest cycling climbs book. Great effort. I've driven up it and it's mental! Decided I'm doing that sportive in a couple of weeks. Have been offered the use of a £5k bike. I'll be declining I suspect....

Do you think a better bike would make it any easier or quicker ? The list price on my road bike was £2000, I got it quite a bit cheaper has it was the previous years model. My mate has a bike which was about £750 but he leaves me standing on every hill. He is about 3 stone lighter than me though ;)

Me and my mates yomped up LBB's hill for our first pint aged 14.

I don't think it would make much difference except it'd shift like a dream (Dura-Ace). It's a Trek Madone with Zipp wheels. The saddle's worth a couple of hundred quid!It would mean I'd spend the whole day shitting myself about scratching the carbon! And look like the ultimate 'all the gear, no idea' rider when I crawl up the climbs!I'll have a ride on it next week but will probably stick to the borrowed Trek Franken-bike. It is very hilly and I'll probably struggle but fuck it, worth a go...

True that, when you were a kid you'd have gone off that on your racer with your best mate sat on the handlebars, These days, I think I'd have all on to walk down that second photo. Well done, flying the flag for the oldies.
