Cold start but nice and dry; first outing of the year for the summer bike.Up to Rothwell, through Swillington, Allerton Bywater, then east through Fairburn, Sutton and Hensall to Snaith. (Anyone still reading?) Back home through Pollington, Womersley, Ackworth and Fev. Just short of 60 miles

Kids went everywhere on bikes back them though didn't they? What you say about older bikes sort of feeds into my logic when I bought my bike; even the base models of today are likely at least as good as the pro models of our youth.One of the high points of the year was the same lad's dad used to take us to Harrogate to the bike show. Downside was coming home and thinking your own bike was shit.Fairburn Ings. Me and the wife were talking the other week and I was on about my grandad taking me there to feed the swans as a nipper. She said when I told her about it previously it conjured up images of great beauty. She didn't realise it was on the way to Car.

Me and the lad have been to Fairburn Ings a couple of times recently. Ace place.

Had a bite to eat with my Mam and sister in the Crooked Billet when I was home. Loads of cyclists out on those roads on a Sunday. In December, good to see.
