In other news, I am officially the 9th fastest person down the Cobbled Canyon trail on Strava. And the fastest in the 45-54 age group. Sad I know, fucking Strava and all that but if nothing else it shows I'm riding faster. Was a belting ride, trials were super fast. Explored the old clay works, graffers paradise....

Coming back was a comedy though. Those new sections for non-motorway traffic that run parallel to the A1. Quality surfaces and hardly any traffic, all the way down to Aberford

Cycled round this neck of the woods at the velo 29 event that started at the farming museum in York. There are a couple of horrible little climbs in and around Wike. Had a food stop half way round at harewood house, wasn't sure if I could make it back as the legs were cramping. I realise on rides over two hours electrolytes and energy bars are a must.

I've never used Strava before but looking at the link you posted I can see how it could get really addictive.......

Avoid Strava like the plague - I've seen it turn, relatively, normal people into pathological obsessives. Willy waving at it's worst. I do record all my Garmin data but don't share it with like-minded OCD freaks.
" If its not on Strava, it never happened" - go fuck yourself. :/

Used to go to Shibden all the time as a kid. It's STEEP. Struggled to walk up it at times let alone ride. If it's wet it'll be carnage on those cobbles

Wow. Like the idea of starting cycling again. Not big on hills though, doesn't look pleasurable. Used to like coming down them though, none handed singing A-G-A-G-R-A-G-R-O-AGRO (sp).

Shibden Valley was my childhood playground, it seems wrong them going down there and me not being there to witness it.

We love the descent from the footpath on Long Lane, down to the water pumping station and then to the valley bottom. And Whiskers Lane that drops you out near the Shibden Mill Inn. Some cracking descents in there. I'd love to move there. Some great houses and you don't pay Norwood Green prices.
