Misura Were you at any of the Arthur Lee gigs at Manchester Academy then? I was at those, 2002 and 2003ish I think. I think Mani has a few places in South Manchester from what I've heard.

fuzzy I got into Arthur Lee pretty late, early 2000 2001, forever changes is now in my top 5 albums. Saw him play in Leeds grand theatre in 2004. Went to bennicassim later that year and managed to convince all my my mates to come and see him play instead of Brian Wilson........He came on stage 1 hour late absolutely fucked off his face. He could hardly stand and as the band continually played the intro to the first song he just stood there and melted. there was a camera right at the front of the stage looking up and there was a dribble of coke oozing from his nose. He attempted to start singing but gave up after about 10 seconds, dropped his guitar and fucked off. It was the saddest thing i have ever seen. Crowd started giving him some right stick and started throwing beer etc onto the stage. We didnt find out till after the gig that his best friend and producer Rick James had died a few hours earlier and Arthur just went off the rails. an absolute genius

I'm still sure Ian lives not far from where I live. My hairdresser sees him regularly. Wasn't Ian's divorce costly hence the move back to his roots (not hairdresser related)?

Saw Mani at Nile Rodgers gig and had a quick chat, nice lad. Garner worked my mate Dave at Our Price Stockport.

Saw them early days in Leeds and Second Coming tour. Saw Ian Brown live and was surprised at the strength of his voice.

They've given us far more than we've given them though! What a band though, one moment in time, it felt (and they looked) beautiful.

Misura Yeah I remember them now. One of them had an England shirt on I think as the World Cup was on at the time in Japan. I remember being knocked out at how great Arthur's voice sounded. So glad I saw them. My son is named after him (along with all the other great Arthur's like Daley, Fowler and Fonzarelli ).

Misura loved the Castle Hotel especially the Old Rosey cider.

What was the name of the bar/club/ whatever directly over the road from it that always played Indie.

And for those who know Manchester better than me - I remember ending up in a night club there in 1981 which was amazing (all post punk, new wave and the like). All I remember it was set under the railway in those arches. And that's all I remember lol

heyho Over the road now is a great little pub called Ancoats lad, full of older people.
Gullivers is still there, rough as ever, and been around a long time.
Near the Railway arches along from the Hac was the Venue but further along and actually was a nightclub called The Brickhouse.
Bit of a legendary place with loyal clientele and a frequent visitor their in late 80's and the 90's. Black bouncer called Leroy ? who was a Wednesday fan. However pissed we were if we got him talking football he always let us in.

If my memory remembers what it was told some 30 years ago the Stone Roses were more likely to be found in the Venue than in the Hacienda? I also seem to remember a bit of disdain towards the Hacienda amongst locals round 88/89 and even a bit after? Or am I just writing bollocks as per usual.
