What film are you watching right now?

Watched the fourth Men in Black film. Can't remember what it's called, but it's crap. Lots of CGI action, no likeable characters, weak story, not worth the effort. Basically, it hasn't got Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones in it.

Hurry Sundown (1967). One of the strangest films ever seen.

Clumsy and some poor acting but strangely compelling. Starring Michael Caine, Jane Fonda (yes), Faye Dunaway (yes) and other stars.
Southern American racism, including the N word dubbed out many times, a saxaphone oral sex scene, and even a hint of paedophilia.
Worth a watch if it comes on again on one of the niche old film channels.

cordshoes Caine has been very prolific over the years. A lot of bit part and cameo appearances but also some classics.

I love Get Carter. Every time I watch it I get an uneasiness

heyho Never the finest of actors: good, certainly not great. He was lucky to get Alfie, after that everything fell into place. One lucky cunt. Harry Brown was a good film. Thought he was excellent in that.

Cooley why is he lucky, he got the Alfie role after Terence Stamp turned it down and told his mate, Caine to go for it. But he had Zulu and The Ipcress File under his belt, 2 great roles. He's been in many great films and for me a great actor. He has admitted himself that he used to take any old film that was offered to pay the bill's, that's why there are a lot of turkeys, The Swarm, Jaws the revenge etc. If you can't tell I'm a big fan 😂

Cooley He's got his own inimitable style. The same accent, a bit wooden when acting but he has made several fine films

Bod Lucky in the sense that someone who’s not a great actor becoming a star. Wayne and Connery being two other examples. Don’t get me wrong, I like Mike, and he’s made several excellent films. I just don’t think his prowess as an actor is in any way commensurate to the fame and fortune he has accrued.

Cooley not disputing that at all but who would you class as a fine actor?

Had to think long and hard myself. My favourites include Eastwood and Donald Sutherland for some reason probably only I know. I also liked, on the small screen, Robert Hardy. Just thought his acting style was almost ad lib. Never been keen for David Jason though. And of course De Niro, Pacino. Denzil Washington as well and most certainly Sidney Poitier

Never really liked the Harry Palmer films and not that enamored of Get Carter". My favorite Caine movies remain The Man Who Would Be King" and "Second Hand Lions." The latter I stumbled on by accident on cable whilst I was living in Japan, cracking little film with bravura performances from him and Duvall.

heyho Dustin Hoffman is good.
Thought Caine was best suited to a film like Dirty Rotten Thieving Scoundrels, where the part isn't 100% serious.

heyho Some corkers there. All about personal choice, innit? Personally, I’d put Spencer Tracy and Gene Hackman at the top of the pile. As such lists are often dominated by men, I’d throw Meryl Streep in there to mix it up.
