Ahhh, a lovely gig - Butler, Blake & Grant at Leeds City Varieties. Bernard Butler, Norman Blake, James Grant. Thought there might be some off here in attendance. Shame it was only half full. Pint in the Templar before and one next door to the venue, they let you take them through.
Acoustic/semi-electric set, chatting and joking between songs. James Grant going on about the Leeds players in WC '74. Some great nod along tracks from their own album interspersed with songs from their own careers - they did Butler's Yes and People Move On, Teenage Fanclub's Planets and Did I Say.
James Grant's good fun, Norman's always a pleasure to behold, getting a tad porky now and Bernard Butler's a proper master, he was making some beautiful sounds.
Finished with Neil Young's Cinnamon Girl, fucking ace.
And for blokes in their 50s & 60s all still had decent heads of hair.
Smashing stuff.
