Under-the-ground Hingley had the big ears and looked like Pob. He replaced Stephen Holt, the original singer in '89. Holt had written 1/2 the first album before he left. Hingley sang on all their good stuff.
Stephen Holt then came back and replaced Hingley in '11, after he'd announced on twitter that the band had split up. It hadn't and he kind of left and they carried on with their first singer.
As an aside, Inspiral Carpets go through bass players like Spinal Tap go through drummers. They're well into double digits now.
