Had a discovery 2 and loved if but was always going wrong with stupid stuff like electronic handbrake sticking on and gears fucking up then the xyz switch ( honestly ) went and always cost a small fortune . After several trips to dealer he said if handbrake sticks hold it up for 5 seconds , down for 5 seconds repeat 3 times and it resets itself. For the gears he said the out it on low ( might have been high can't remember ) and drive round the car park going up the gears then down again and it re calibrated itself. Right con. That vw bulli is a mad looking thing , is it really bring released ?

Fuck old cars. Fuck every car out of warranty you have to 'maintain'. These days I want one that I can just get in, start and drive and not have to worry about when and where its going to let me down. And one that doesn't engender road rage off the other cunts out there.

Ted, LR2 is what's known over here as a Freelander. It's ok, but the boot isn't huge, it's a bit pricey and will be replaced by a new car next year. The Audi Q3 is a more direct replacement for your Tiguan, the Q5 is bigger. I happen to,like the Q3 more as it has the very minimal dash from the A3. I would definitely look at a Kia Sportage. This is now a quality bit of kit, with great warranty and enthusiastic dealers. My other favourite is a Volvo XC60, although I'm not sure what engine choice you have over there. It's 30% bigger than a Tiguan, but a good drive and has the greatest seats ever.I'm a bit square and do this for a living.....!

Cheers Ptitch, I'll ask about the LR2. The Audi Q3 doesn't exist here … and the Q5 starting price is more or less the same as the Tiguan model we have. Volvo… I'm sold but Mrs TT won't entertain them, reckons they're cars for literary/ intellectual types. I told her Cuts had/has one but she's still not buying :DMore problematic than just buying the best value for money. Also a little question of image, need something that says 'I'm doing alright' otherwise rumours fly in this industry that you're struggling but definitely not anything too flash. As for flogging motors, hardly glamorous selling clothes to wannabe fashion designers/ stylists ( see Ikea for wannabe interior designers) either. Thanks again, appreciate the reply, and for the others who chipped in with advice.

^ This is why I've got a skoda. Not one thing wrong with it in 3 years so far. Couldn't give a monkeys about image when it comes to cars.

We are all worried about image at some point. Differs between people and industries. Work on a building site in Canada and I guarantee that no-one pitches up in a Prius, and that no-one has crap tools, or doesn't wear real rigger boots … those who play golf to a certain level I'm sure have a set of clubs which are semi decent, you probably could have got a cheaper set but don't want to look like a twat. We all do it and anyone who says otherwise is a big fat fookin' liar :D Anyway, hardly like I'm getting a Porsche :lol:and in reply to Gore's comment - Yes. Unless you're minted.

Take a look at the Nissan Quashqai....cheaper than similar specced opposition and all the reviews rave about it, rating it above the corresponding offerings from Mercedes, Audi etc.Reliability is a given, it's cheap to run and if you go top of the range, has every gadget known to man. Looks good as well.

If I said that about 5 years ago me and my production company worked in our spare time (at least two hours a day) for three months coming up with a campaign/ events for Nissan ( namely the Quahqai) to position themselves in the fashion market with a half a million euro budget . Which when we were about to present to their PR company turned into 20K you would understand that I wouldn't cross the street to check out a Nissan. But thanks for the tip SSK :D

I wouldn't go that far.

:DTed, I agree about image. I like nice clothes, its just never applied to what I drive. I see cars solely in terms of functionality and what I need from them and image isn't part of that for me.

Saw a mint condition dark blue Triumph Stag last week in town. Looked beautiful. In a big tash, silk scarf and flares way.....
