Thanks. Been going down every 2 or 3 weeks to clear stuff. The fact my dad was a secret hoarder has been interesting, frustrating and sad in equal amounts. Keep findind stuff that I thought got chucked out 30 years ago. Why have 1 torch when you can have 30?

Really feel for you harvest. Hope you find some great things. I've got some good memorabilia of me dad's, his letters home from around the world when he was a young lad in the merchant navy. I look through his stuff on occasion but there is so much missing.When me mum and dad got married, me dad's car got nicked on the same day. All his photographs and stuff were in the boot. He used to play for the ship companies football team and also box for them. He had a pennant from every countries team they had played in the boot too. He wasn't arsed about the car, it was the memories. Despite appeals in the local press they were never returned. Then when he died, I got some stuff and my brother got the rest. In the height of a mental illness he threw his stuff away.I know how you feel lbb. It was an awful feeling that I still have when I found out what our kid had done. They were precious to me dad and also to me. My favourites were certificates he was awarded for being champion boxer for the ships he was on. Only one I remember is the athlone castle. Can't remember the others. All lost.You'll get a lot of pleasure sorting through the stuff harvest. You'll also get upset but that's all part of the process

That's sad Scootay and LBB, things with memories gone like that. I've found a few old hardback notebooks from when my dad was learning his trade (instrument mechanic), beautiful handwriting and detailed diagrams. There are his army call up papers still in the envelope plus his demob papers and loads of other things connected to his National Service like pay slips, leave papers, rifle training etc. On the flipside there's tons of old crap like 20 year old lottery tickets and coach holiday brochures from 1987.Started sorting the garage. I have the feeling I'll still be doing it this time next year. Found my old tape recorder that I used to tape the top 40 on when I was 10. There are hundreds of jars of screws, nuts, washers, bolts. Rolls of electrician's tape, batteries, paint, my God there's paint, eight, yes eight cans of WD40, old doors, old windows, curtains, Venetian blinds and enough rolls of cable to lasoo the moon. There's also loads of old metal and steel. Going to take all that and the cable to the scrapyard. Need to sort out his hundreds of tools, some are really beautiful things, hard wearing well made things weathered by hard work and sweat. So much stuff.
