Anchor yeah, depends how you interpret the post. Both were great bands who should’ve been bigger than they were. New FADs were so interesting musically during that Madchester period where so many other chancers were putting out terrible records and I loved Andy Spearpoint’s lyrics and delivery. The live album is ace. Likewise Puressence had a lot more to offer than their peers and should have been selling out stadiums around the world.
If the original post is about bands who were great and then produced a load of commercial shite, then The Verve is the perfect example. Absolutely mind blowing when Ashcroft was “mad Richard” and he let Nick McCabe write the music. Incredible band up to A Northern Soul, then they split and only got back together to cash in on Oasis referencing them. Unfortunately, Urban Hymns was basically an Ashcroft solo album and not a patch on their previous stuff (although it had a few good songs on and was certainly a lot better than what was to come).
