It was a brilliant night and he was basically saying the same things on the night. Brilliant to see him in the flesh and looking and sounding so good. An almost lifelong ambition of mine was to meet him and shake his hand. I got a good picture with him too.

Watched Josh Warrington for the time last time (on the Tele, rather than being there - £45 tickets put me off). He looks a good boxer, but doesnt seem to have enough of a dig. I think that will possibly cost him when he moves on to real class fighters. He seems a good lad though and the support was fantastic. I think Leeds is desperate for a home town world champion - have we ever had one?

I like the lad, he seems like a nice bloke. I kind of agree with you on the lack of a good dig but you never know. If he can take a shot and pile on the points. Stranger things have happened. I guess that might be why his management haven't pushed harder for a title shot yet. He's making lots of money, packing them in on the cusp of challenging. As far as I'm aware the only title fight ever held in Leeds was Tom Collins challenging Leonzare Barber at the Town Hall. Things didn't look good when Tom turned up on the 62 bus.

I'll take your word for it. I'd left by then and I've never seen the fight but I thought it was in Manchester. Was a time when the little guys used to wail on each other for 15 rounds.

Did he fight twice at Elland Road?
Mega_Armageddon_Chickens
Wharton definitely fought at Elland Road but I don't remember it being for a world title and If my memory serves the Eubank fight was at Manchester. There's seems to be some mixed reactions to the Warrington fight and even though Martinez is on the way down he's still a step up from previous Warrington opponents. There would be some concern that Martinez was stopped quickly by Quigg at a lower weight and by Santa Cruz ? fairly recently.Whenever I see Frank Warren these days I always wonder what ever happended to Terry Marsh.

Eubank Wharton fight was in Manchester at the gmex centre. I was there. Saw most of Whartons fights, some great nights at the town hall particularly stand out. I was at elland road when Frank Grant fought herol Graham and Wharton was on that bill. Can't remember who he fought now

Must be my memory.

Wharton did fight Eubank in Manchester, I was at that one too. Was also at Elland road. Had to google, he fought Fidel Castro smith. The graham against grant fight was a belter.Started going to watch denzil brown fight, as he is a mate of my dads. Wharton fought on the same bill. Like you say scootay, there were some top nights at the town hall.

I trained at Frank grants gym. I remember him even before he turned pro. He wasn't really arsed about being a boxer. Seem to remember he was there almost reluctantly. But then he started winning and looking good.

Does anyone remember Mick Marsden and the Davey brothers from Rothwell. Mick had a few good fights and lost to Pat Cowell. Mark Davey retired after losing last one to George Collins.

Was Rod Carr when the glove split. Two tough fights. Just Googled him, took his own life last year. Spuds was a light heavy I think. From Crossgates or Seacroft, had a shop near the Melbourne maybe?Darren Hobson fought Benn at no notice at all. Might have actually worked on the market the morning of the fight. My memory is fuzzy. Tony was a cracking lad. Could take a punch but usually got a couple off when he did. Always promised a title shot, one more fight, this one's an eliminator etc... The brothers is that Nick Manners you are on about? I remember Wharton's debut in Harrogate. I'd have fancied my chances with the lad he fought. Didn't Adam Fogerty fight on a few of those cards also?

Nick manners cuts, yeah. One was Colin manners I think, can't remember the other brother. Darren Hobson I remember. Can't picture the other lads you mention tho cuts.

Tony, from memory was under Mickey Duff. Read Teddy Atlas's book to see how cheap he was. Fogerty played for Haliax and, I think Wigan. He's in Snatch, Gorgeous George.
