He does have a significant media following and they were outraged by it citing Gary Linekar and his Walkers crisps. Apparently the Beed said that the issue was that the person he portrayed in the advert i.e. the overalls and hard hat wearing twat was very similar to his 'character' in their programmes. So it infringed their code of practice.
It appears though that he was never actually sacked.
