Placid I don’t know if that post was aimed at me, but I didn’t say Southport and Southend were linked, i certainly didn’t mention race or colour or religion and I’m certainly not going to celebrate three lads fighting (whatever their backgrounds) on a busy seafront with machetes in broad daylight as if it’s the re-emergence of some grand British tradition going back to the 1960’s. Misura we saw in the early 80s that rioting can be infectious.

Perhaps Southend and Southport were linked. Perhaps Southend was a show of strength to the far right's attack on a mosque, by a population with other gripes. All conjecture on my part.

These things are best left to the authorities, unfortunately these things take time, leaving a vacuum for racist rent-a-mouths to exploit.

Edited to add, it seems this happens every year, seems like a modern take on the old mods and rockers thing and not related to events in Southport.
