Misura we saw in the early 80s that rioting can be infectious.
Perhaps Southend and Southport were linked. Perhaps Southend was a show of strength to the far right's attack on a mosque, by a population with other gripes. All conjecture on my part.
These things are best left to the authorities, unfortunately these things take time, leaving a vacuum for racist rent-a-mouths to exploit.
Edited to add, it seems this happens every year, seems like a modern take on the old mods and rockers thing and not related to events in Southport.
