The_Grouch I also squeezed in a tour of the Sydney Cricket Ground which was a real treat as they were preparing for the new year test match.

What was your guide's name? Stuart showed us round. A gem of a bloke. Did you do the Allianz bit too?
Agree about the Harbour. The kids were blown away by it. Still had that impact for the Mrs and I 20 years after we first saw it.

Yes, Stuart was the guide. He was still showing us round 30 minutes after the tour was due to finish. While we were in the changing rooms he brought the history to life explaining where the great players sat in each dressing room and their routines and superstitions.

Trying to encourage my youngest to try NZ. Best place I’ve ever visited. Wish I’d of had some kind of skills or qualifications that would’ve enabled me to emigrate there. I’d have been off like a rocket.
Price you pay for been a dosser when you’re young.

Yes, heading to the South Island in a couple of weeks. People keep telling us that the South Island is more spectacular, which is hard to imagine given how scenic the North is.

Update…

Day 12. Drove to Coramandel Town along a coast road that was like a bonkers scenic racetrack. Quite a strange, quiet town surrounded by sea views and mountains. Did the short Kauri Block walk to see stunning pre-sunset views before heading into town for a drink in a bar from the Wild West.
Day 13. Drove along another racetrack over the mountains for a game of golf at The Dunes in Matarangi. Another odd place on the tip of the peninsular. More spectacular sea views.
Day 14. Drove back over the mountains towards Whangamata, calling at Cathedral Cove on the Pacific Coast. Lovely walk down to the beach but packed with bloody tourists 😃on a scorching hot day. Glad to make it down to Whangamata where my sister’s in-laws have a beach house. Lovely big family evening.
Day 15. Game of golf at Whangamata GC. Great views again and we’re getting used to playing golf at nice courses with a real New Zealand laid-back attitude. Pub crawl with my sister and brother-in-law in the afternoon sunshine.
Day 16. Back on the road towards Taupo. A holiday town on the edge of a big lake. Did a walk along the waterfront for a Drink at 2-mile Bay Sailing Club. Easy to find…. It’s just past 1-mile Bay and before 3-mile Bay. If you reach 5-mile Bay you have definitely missed it.
Day 17. More golf. Wairakei Golf & Sanctuary. This was our first pricey round of the trip. A golf course that is also a bird and wildlife sanctuary, protected by fences similar to Jurassic Park. What a place. I found myself agreeing with Mark Twain that golf is a good walk ruined. As we almost had the place to ourselves we could take our time and enjoy the golf & the wildlife. Did another walk on the waterfront to a headland for views of the volcanoes. Now about to plan a day out walking in the Tongariro National Park.

Odd_Job Hire a car. Drive to Milford Sound. Drive to Bluff, go Great White Shark diving and then catch the ferry to Stewart Island. If you play golf there's a lovely course over the lake at Queenstown.

Misura Never made it to Milford Sound. At the time you had to reserve a spot to hike the trail and it was booked up for months in advance. It looks phenomenal. We were young and skint and didn’t have enough for one of the boat excursions.

Enjoyed Dunedin in spite of all journeys truly been up hill both ways.

Unless you have family there I’d give Christchurch

I am currently looking at flights. Was going to head to Chile and Argentina for my 60th but they’ve both gone mad right wing and I’d like a break from all that so I’m exploring all options . Probably just have a take away and watch Netflix mind.
