CharlieG We encountered a landslide on the road just outside Ross.
Back packing and on a tight budget when I went. The idea was to work in Australia but we landed in the midst of a recession so that didn’t really work out. New Zealand was an afterthought. When booking our flights the girl in the travel agents advised sticking in a stop over ‘seen as you’re almost there anyway,’ and I’m eternally grateful to her for her input. Planned 10 days, stayed 6 weeks.
The Franz Josef glacier was a highlight for me, although the trek was cut short when the ice started making noises akin to a thunder storm.
Overhead a middle-aged couple from Blackburn discussing how they’d retested their goretex jackets in the hostel showers the night before. Did you hang them in there and run the water? No, we stripped off then put our jackets on. Lancashire Mill Town foreplay at its finest.
Misura l’ll search for it, thanks.
Tentative plan was Buenos Aries then down to Calafate, El Cheltan do some day hikes, then into Chile, Punto Torres Del Paine, more hiking, W circuit ,down to Tierra Del Fuego, up to the wine region, Valparaiso ( most likely via Santiago, then up to the desert (maybe).
We talked about heading to Machu Picchu if I could get enough time off. We’ll see.
