Back from a walk with the wife. There’s a nice loop by us, get the uphill in early, nice little nature preserve, then down the other side and a flat return to our gaff. Loads of mountain bikers out today. Got some weird looks which I’m guessing was due to wearing shorts. 8C, didn’t see anyone else wearing them. Christ knows what they’ll wear when it does get cold.

I use the Strava app. (Free version) Just got my yearly report that shows 1800km run this year compared to 2700km the year before, which is quite a drop. All down to injuries. One year ago this week I nastily sprained my ankle and couldn't run for 5 weeks. Following that during the year I've IT band knee pain that stopped me running for the best part of a month, have done both achilles and had a calf muscle minor tear. All in all I reckon I've missed more than 2 months. Best one was a month ago. I cut my big toe while clipping my nails, stubbed it on a tree root under fallen leaves, put all my weight on my other leg and aggravated achilles and calf strains in the same moment. Excruciating.
It's all a bit Leeds 21/22 compared to 20/21.
But, as they say, I go again.

I did the Nagoya half about 5 years ago and was training for the Tokyo marathon a year later, damaged the left knee badly and IT band issues, haven't run since sadly. Resigned to walking places and cycling all over.

Mitaman A real shame because haven't seen you all in so long but we're away staying with friends for a couple of nights from Boxing Day. Bloke's a Liverpool fan, though not hugely so.

Cheeky Christmas Eve run today. 4.16 miles in 36.06 at a pace of 08:40 per mile. Ho, ho, ho! Don't think I'll bother with the Christmas Day park run, now...

First run this morning since November.
Killer.
Half an hour to run 3 miles, pretty pathetic really given what I was pushing last summer.
Lost all interest once the colder dark nights and mornings crept in and ate and drank like a pig over Christmas.
Put on half a stone which added to the half a stone I was already hoping to lose ain’t good.
Doing the January detox stint too so not touched a drop since New Years Eve.
Need to toughen up mentally and push on now.

No shame in that, Raposa. As long as you keep giving it a go, that's all that matters. Ain't had a run for a couple of weeks, now, but this week I've had 3 TKD sessions and a JJ session and am about to go for my red tag TKD grading, so that's enough of a work out for me, I reckon! Back to running next week.

First run post NY was 10 min miles.

9:10 yesterday for my 10K - it comes back pretty quickly. Hopefully I can settle back into my 8:30 and then really think about how to push on from there.

Doing 5K every other day at the minute. Enjoying it. Even bought some new running shoes, which are without doubt the ugliest trainers I have ever acquired. I have to maintain my gaze on the horizon as I run.
