Try and do 5k park run every Saturday morning. That, combined with TKD twice a week and JIu Jitsu after park run is keeping me fitter than I've been for about 20 years. It's funny, but the prospect of going for a run just 6 months ago filled me with dread, now I almost look forward to it and will be looking at taking part in some charity runs from now on, too.

I ride at weekends so don't reckon I'll be doing much running. I have to ferry the kids to swimming etc on Saturday mornings. But I am finding it a quick and easy way to get out and get some decent exercise done. That's the appeal. Looked at some Ascis Gel Venture shoes going cheap. Anyone know if they're any good? Going to try and avoid running on pavements as much as I can. Should be able to run almost entirely on grass and trials.

Did 5k park run in 29.4 today, which I would normally be pleased with except I did it in 29.3 last week!Still, I'm consistently under 30 mins now and moving in the right direction (forward).

2.5 miles every other day now. Daughter is running the first 'lap' with me which is good fun and helps me warm up. Never going to be quick but that's not the object. Am enjoying it and the fact I can get decent exercise really quickly. Noticing it when out on the bike when climbing.Went to Up and Running and had a spell on the treadmill (dodgy disc means my left leg over pronates). Advice from the ultra runners and marathon lot I work with was get some decent shoes that fit etc.Anyway, after parting with an astronomical sum of cash I am now the owner of what have to be the ugliest Saucony shoes ever made.......Quite looking forward to trying them out in anger tomorrow tbhEdited to add...size 13 too!

Maiden voyage in the new shoes. Massive difference. No foot roll at all. Normally I can feel the muscles at the bottom of my back and my glute trying to compensate. Left foot never feels comfortable in the old shoes. Felt great today. Was absolutely pissing it down but at least that kept me cool.Enjoying this. Back on two wheels tomorrow mind...

Just ran 6.5 miles. Without stopping. The furthest I've run. Ever. Realised when I got back that it means I've done a '10k'. F***, with that and the beer I've gone all Waitrose haven't I? Be listening to f***ing Elbow next....

Nice one TB - gonna enter a 10K?
Travis_Bickle
Might do. Or might aim for a half marathon next year.

Nice - I like a half - nice distance. There are some lovely trail half marathons near me - Wye valley and that - running through dappled woods on a knee friendly surface - lovely.

Someone I know did the Humber Bridge one this weekend just gone. Quite fancy that. She did the Royal Parks one, reckoned that was great. We'll see. 2 days on and I don't feel too bad. Back to shorter ones and then another longer one at the weekend hopefully. Going to try and get out on the MTB one night this week. Trails are bone dry.....

I am going to wait till Wednesday. Some trails near me as the lad trains at rugby. Been a bit lazy of late/drinking too much cider.

This is the thread where I usually post, yeh, looking at getting into this soon and then do fuck all about it. See also the cycling one. And others.

Just done 5km, fucking melting in the heat. Did 4 or so a couple of days ago. Getting out every 2 or 3 days. Can definitely feel myself getting fitter. Enjoying it.....

Ran 10k today. Slowly. Was sweltering hot so plodded round. Have done just under 30 miles this month. Quite pleased with the way it's going. No injuries yet thank god.....

Nice one TB,you’ve got the bug!First run for me this morning in a fortnight, did just over 5 miles.Tweeked my calf whilst running in the Algarve the other week whilst on my jollies so been resting up.Fucking hard going today,as you say, baking hot and made me realise that getting fit is one thing but staying fit is something altogether different.
