CharlieG Tomorrow afternoon we’re going to listen to Stuart Maconie talk about his book “ The Full English” at the Words by the Water Festival.

Very entertaining afternoon. Maconie is very much a motormouth who can talk for England but is engaging, insightful, intelligent, a little self-deprecating and above all, fucking funny. The book revisits JB Priestley's English Journey, a kind of travelogue giving an assessment of the state of the country in the mid 1930's, post Covid ( which was coincidental) in the 2020's. Got a copy signed, afterwards and had a brief chat with him. This will be holiday reading material, next week, in Dumfries and Galloway.

I'm going to South East Kent on Saturday.

I'm staying in St Margret's Bay - which is outside Dover. It's a lovely place.

On the night I'm heading into Dover to meet old friends I've kept in touch with - looking forward to that.

Sunday heading up the coast to Walmer, Deal, Sandwich, Ramsgate, Broadstairs and Margate.
Monday going to River - where I am actually from - small village outside Dover - for a mooch about.
Tuesday - seeing my dad's partner for lunch. Only family I have left down there and she's not really family but a lovely person. She has a hydrometer for me from my Grandad who ran pubs in Hastings in the 30's and 40's. Who knew!

Anchor Used to go to Sy Margarets Bay regularly when I was a kid with the family. Camping mostly. Dymchurch, Romney Marshes, Dungeness - memories of the idyllic Kent countryside come flooding back. This was late 60's very early 70's. 71 we were back in Leeds.
