Travis_Bickle Chipotle chilli prawns with seared sweetcorn. Guacamole, plum tomato salsa, Mexican slaw and. rocket and peccarino salad. Fenel and.garlic flatbreads (first time I've made them).
Placid Bod that was in the oven, about 5 hours so far. Will put it back in for another 2. The rub is ground salt, pepper, rosemary, thyme, horseraddish sauce and redcurrant jelly.
Bod Placid yeah I can see that, but you have done it on a slow cooker as well, I haven't done it in the oven, is it better ?
Tolley Are you still making your own flat breads? I've tried making them with 50:50 greek yoghurt and self-raising flour, but they're too flat and don't bubble up slightly. Do you add extra baking powder?
Tolley Placid Thanks - I've been trying straightforward yoghurt/ flour recipes i.e. without yeast. There's lot's of recipes out there, but I've been disappointed with the results.
Travis_Bickle I mixed 350g self-raising, 350g natural yoghurt, a teaspoon of baking powder, fennel seeds and garlic. Left for an hour or so. Fried in a really hot pan with a tiny bit of oil.
Tolley Travis_Bickle Jamie Oliver? I liked the idea of the extra baking powder, so by coincidence was going to try that next.
Placid Bod Ah ok, not sure yet havent eaten it. So far I think it cooks better, get more colour and charrie sweetness in the bits Ive tasted. Slow cookers are ace but meat I think tastes better oven roasted. I like one pot stuff in slows chillie etc
Travis_Bickle Tolley Yep. Mrs reckons the baking powder is the key. And plenty of heat in the pan. I had to cool it down between each one and keep them warm in the oven.
Harvest Doing sausage and mash, while it's cooking I've spent five minutes dipping chunks of Cheshire cheese in a jar of mango chutney. Cheese starter.
