Currently watching The Gone, a Kiwi-Irish crime noir crossover thing on BBC4/iplayer. The first episode is a bit slow and formulaic, but four in (out of six) and it’s pretty gripping. Not sure where it’s going to go. Elements of the first series of True Detective, plus a subplot over Māori land and an eco development. One of their community has returned to town, but now investigating the disappearance of a young Irish couple, historical murders and her own mother’s suicide. A hardbitten troubled (obvs) Dublin cop has flown out for some reason and a nosey Irish journalist, also his ex, is causing chaos (obvs). Throw in a Dublin crime family having relocated to NZ, a seedy hostel, crystal meth and reprobates on motorbikes and it’s all getting quite interesting.
