It used to be that the winners of each respective league in each European nation played in a straight knockout.
Now you can be fourth best in your country,lose three games in your group stage and still end up as Champions of Europe!

Thought the remark made by the commentators at yesterdays EFL final was poignant - he far preferred the EFL Cup Final as it had a better atmosphere because a greater amount of tickets went to each team unlike the FA Cup where they get dished out like hot cakes.

Isn't there talk of a change in the champions league format, 4 leagues of 8 instead of 8 leagues of 4, and apparently 24 teams will regain their spot regardless how they perform in their domestic leagues. Talk of the prem being reduced to 18.

Bod European League soon. Load of bollocks, I can't be arsed watching any "Champions" League already, going to be less so once the "elite" of each nation are in a league, playing each other forever and ever, amen. Can't see the attraction at all. Just like football fans arguing over football club's finances and what player is worth how much and whether "we" should sign them at that price - not what I signed up for, just put the fucking football on!

Who cares? Who won it last year? No idea. The year before? Fuck knows. I can tell you who won it in 1976 though. And 1977. And the year after that.
The FA Cup was all about the sun shining, the build-up, a swift kick about in the garden. About being a kid. Now we’re all too old and cynical for ANY football game to really impress us. Maybe we look at it through rose-tinted bins, but it was ace, wasn’t it?

Apart from 91 when I was travelling, I've not missed one since 74. The last 15 years or so have all become a blur in terms of who's playing but I guess it's just a tradition. A link to being a kid I suppose.

For some reason I have no memory of ‘75. Clear memories of Bobby Stokes bless him, sticking it to Man U the following year though. My lifelong hatred of that club began around this time.

I was always convinced that the first one I remember was 75. I actually recall walking to the shop at the end of our road at half time as my mum wanted some pie- filling!
But I also remember sat watching a live match with my dad, when live matches were rare, and Malcolm MacDonald getting put through and blasting it high in the air with a terrible shot and there was a big area behind the goal. I can picture it clearly. Years later when YouTube came along I was randomly looking at old cup final clips and came across Liverpool v Newcastle 74. Towards the end, there it is, MacDonald shanking a shot and it's exactly as I remembered. So that's the first final I recall.

67 was my first memory, spurs v Chelsea. Then never missed until mid 90's. Missed a few since .

Always used to have a bottle of pop off the pop waggon to sit and watch the Cup Final with. It was an event.

1972 was my earliest memory. That was the year I was sat in the back of my Dad's car (a 3 litre Ford Zephyr?) when he filled it up at the petrol station and he gave me the Billy Bremner coin and I became aware that Leeds United existed.

First was 64, Ronnie Boyce was my hero for a whole year. Then I saw the 65 final and the white strip of the underdogs who played so well but, in the end. lost. I was in love and have been ever since. I hope Leicester do it.
