Just read the latest George Pelecanos. I think he’s superb. It’s called “Owning Up” and is a collection of short stories, so not quite as satisfying as a lot of his books but still worth a read. If you don’t know much about him, he wrote on The Wire and subsequent David Simon series (Treme, The Deuce, We Own This City), so you get the idea. Social realism, political commentary, sharp dialogue. Recommended. Maybe start with a standalone rather than one of his series to see if you enjoy his style of writing.
