The Spy Who Came in from the Cold by John Le Carré. Absolute master of his craft wasn't he? The tension in the last few chapters as the multiple twists unfold is gripping.
Graham Greene said this was the greatest spy novel ever written apparently. Gonna have another go at Tinker Tailor next I think.
