What Book Are You Reading Now?

Having said that, I imagine only a few rock stars will have shagged another woman at some time. In fact, I'd be surprised it went on at all! 😜

Well, listening to. Mentioned by our very own man of the fells @fuzzy a while back.
Had a freebie on Audible. Be great for the headphones on the commute.

J.M Coetzee's autobiography of his South African childhood. Boyhood. It was shit.

The book and his childhood. Weird cunt.

“Loose Fit” - Matthias Connor

Under-the-ground

The last expedition. Moreton Stanley through the Congo.

Fuck me. This is from the worm hole of Apocalypse Now. A walk in the park the book & film to what actually happened. This is like Blood Merdian but worse. And it actually happened.

A starter for ten.
Carry that. No. Right string him from a tree by the neck.
What do you mean eating people. Here’s a ten year old girl & here’s a cannibal. Watch them eat her.

It is brutal. Exterminate the brutes indeed.

Harvest

🎩🎩🎩's off to you lot for all the books you're reading. I still class myself as an avid reader but realise I've read zero this year. And the pile grows bigger.

Under-the-ground

Anchor yes.

Jon

Harvest I’ve started a lot and only finished a few. Can fly through the music bios but anything a bit heavy beats me these days.

Jon

Under-the-ground I read up on him a bit after your post, undoubtably a cunt and also known to wildly exaggerate and embellish.

Djpekingman

Jon Stanley apparently was well known amongst other great explorers for being a cunt. To be fair anyone who was hooked up with Leopold would have to be. When I lived in Brussels, the African museum in Tervuren was a shocker. I think a lot of stuff has been removed now.

There was a street down from the Palais de Justice that was full of African clubs. never knew who to trust down there given the number of Congolese/Zaireans who were in cahoots with the Belgian colonisers and had fled after Independence when it all went totally tits up.

Read her first one years ago - Ukrainian tractors or something.

Similar shtick - Eastern European types engaging in the UK. Touches on a few topical issues (although written in 2005) and primarily is fairly funny - fancied something a bit light hearted to round out the year in books.

Under-the-ground

Me & mr jones. Suzi Rondon.

She invented the ziggy stardust hairdo then married Rono. Mad how her life totally changed & Bowie went from suburban weirdo to a superstar. Recommend & an easy read .

Under-the-ground

Deborah levy. Swallowing geography.

A short book. Not sure what it was about. Seemed to be about people making a life for them. Not sure it was for me. Still worth a go

Under-the-ground

On a roll this weekend. Doborah levy again. The cost of living.

This is brilliant. A great book. I guess it is feminist but the economy of the text is fantastic. First book Ive read in one go for a while. Really recommended

Finished 'Under the Eye of the Big Bird' by Hiromi Kawakami this week and I'm still not sure what I thought about it.

Then polished off 'The Heart in Winter' by Kevin Barry in a couple of days - he reminds me of peak Daniel Woodrell, he's that good.

Now on The Benefactors by Wendy Erskine. So far so good.

Under-the-ground

Just finished King Leopolds Ghost.

Really heavy going. The death, torture & destruction on the last one was a side show.

This book just sprung the whole thing apart. Mental. In 10years they killed half the population of the country. Going to give this a rest for a few weeks. It’s taking its toll.

Just finished the Jesus & Mary chain book. Very good. Deffo 4real.
