Never Have your Dog Stuffed, Alan Alda's autobiography. He had an amazing childhood, his mother had serious mental health issues, opening line "My mother didn't try to stab my father until I was six years old". Both parents were vaudeville actors/comedians on the circuit, he grew up thinking this gypsy lifestyle surrounded by what was basically a freak show was normal, they all called normal people with regular jobs "civilians', after his mother was finally sectioned he went to high school and got the shit kicked out of him for being such a weirdo, trying to perform and make everyone laugh. That's as far as I've got, cracking read.
Always liked Alda as a kid, MASH (without the laugh track) was one of my favourite shows, he's got Parkinson's now but until recently he was really active in promoting science communication. I tried to get in touch with him recently to see if he was interested in a project I had in mind, but seems like he's too far gone now, poor lad.
