I liked it, it was grim with some desperate characters, none really likeable. Set in the eighties, the murder scene was a bit graphic but not disturbing. The narrative is very Philip Marlowe like the Humphrey Bogart films. It's the first of five Factory series of books, the Factory being the Department of unexplained deaths, think you read the 4th one. I can see where the comparison to Daved Peace comes in, set in the grim, gritty eighties time, as in the Red Riding series. Short book as well, 190 pages.
