cordshoes I read this in about two days - loved it.
Massive metaphor for modern life or an allegory - Mmmmmmm - i'd veer more toward a metaphor but a more likely one. Or a combination of the two - anyway.
It clearly uses real people and at first I felt it was a bit daft the names chossen but it just adds the allegory element I suppose. it has hints of novel about it - but not much really. it does not need to as it is not really a novel - it is a warning.
It certainly made me think about my place in this world and my political leanings and how inflexible I am in that respect and how I need to dig even deeper with my thinking re my points. It also made me think 'fuck it - I cant be arsed with this anymor, it's fucking popintless'!
anyway - very clever, very funny and very observant - Ben Elton is a bit of a cock but fuck me he is sharp.
