After a bit of backwards and forwards with Mol on Twitter I’m gonna give 50 books, one from each state a go. I’ll probably quit at some point but let’s see how I get on. There will be re-reading some old faves.

I'm trying to read The Rotters Club by Jonathan Coe after a neighbour lent me it and implored me to read it. Said it was brilliant. I'm a hundred pages in and it's boring the arse off me.

I've sacked off The Age Of Surveillance Capitalism and The Uninhabitable Earth because they were far too terrifying / depressing for the current mode we're living in.

Just finished "Have A Bleedin' Guess" by Paul Hanley, the story of the making of Hex Enduction Hour. Mildly diverting, but not essential reading, even for a big Fall fan such as myself. His brother's book "The Big Midweek" was good.

I'm gonna have a look through my tottering "To Be Read" pile and see what's at the top.

99 Nights in Logar by Jamil Jan Kochai. Coming of age in current day Afghanistan. Has got better as it’s gone on, a decent read.

The Big Midweek was a real eye opener. I never expected "other" Fall members to be living in luxury, but the tales of Hanley working in his dad's pie shop. Blimey.

Currently reading Watching The Door by Kevin Myers. First hand account of the horror and futility of the conflict in 1970s Belfast. Macabre and fascinating in equal measure.

Started a re-read of The Road last week to pick up a few survival tips a few months from now but fucked it off. Currently taking it in turns with the Mrs to have the kids downstairs while the other one works from home upstairs. When it's my turn to work from home I am mostly laid on the bed reading 'The Wind Up Bird Chronicles' by Murukami in between sending emails and Zoom meetings. Shhhh, don't tell her right.

fuzzy Loved the Wind Up Bird Chronicles, and Murakami generally. Went through a big phase years ago and haven’t read any since.
I think The Road is one of the last books i’d want to read right now. Might start to plough through my Jeeves collection next; Wodehouse is always a tonic when times are tough.

Kevin_Stapleton It's ace innit? I remember reading it early 2000s during a bout of insomnia. I'd read chapters at 3am then drift off to sleep and have weird dreams about it. I love his style. I can vividly picture what is going on. It's like taking a surreal walk in your imagination which is great for these times.

I bought Berlin Alexanderplatz fairly recently due to watching the German TV series that used to be on when I got back from the pub in the mid 80s. I have given up on several occasions but I now fear I will finally get to finish it. It's probably lost something in translation.

I once fell asleep in the bath reading a Julie Christie biography. Woke up in cold water with the book floating around my midsection.
That was an awkward visit to the library the following week.
